At the “Future Photonics Cooperation Committee Launch Ceremony” hosted by OPTONEST, attendees included representatives from Gwangju Metropolitan City, the Korea Photonics Technology Institute (KOPTI), the Korea Photonics Industry Development Association, as well as innovation leaders and company representatives from industry, academia, research institutes, and government related to the future photonics sector. Key participants included Vice Mayor Kim Young-moon, KOPTI President Seo Gi-woong, and Korea Photonics Industry Development Association Vice Chairman Ahn Shin-geol.
During the event, participants discussed the need to foster the future photonics industry in connection with AI semiconductors, future mobility, defense, and quantum technologies. They also shared cooperation strategies to develop Gwangju into a key hub for optical semiconductor OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) and PIC (Photonic Integrated Circuit)-based technologies. In addition, proposals were made to expand demonstration projects, promote localization of core materials, strengthen policy support, and increase R&D investment to enhance the competitiveness of the future photonics industry.
